The Tower Pheasant Shoot

Safari Club International of Tampa Bay
(22 shooters with 12-guage firepower)
Will shoot pheasants with glee in fowl play.
The shooting of birds will take less than an hour.

22 dinosaurs in pricey apparel
Without effort, conscience, or accuracy,
Like gunslingers shootin’ fish in a barrel
Kill captive prey unable to flee.

Two hundred twenty birds flung from a tower,
Into the unknown, so roughly deployed.
All are murdered in less than an hour;
Ambushed for fun in the great blue void.

Roughly ejected they’re helplessly flailing
In panic. The birds will have flown
A few seconds, desperately sailing
Into their lethal kill zone.

Arcade shooting of defenseless live prey
Is considered “sport” by SCI.
Bothers them not that on this day
Two hundred twenty beautiful creatures will die.

Four hundred twenty bucks each member will pay
For breakfast, birdkilling, lunch, open bar.
The snuffing of lives in this macabre soiree
Is tragic, obsolete, and totally bizarre.

No plucking or cleaning or messy tasks
To accomplish when shooting is done.
No requirement to wear COVID-19 masks
To detract from their cruel-hearted “fun”.

It’s a tidy tax writeoff, a donation. No strain.
No “yee haw!” here, or wild rebel yell.
Just corporate types— the privileged urbane.
